Another day, another video offering an alleged 'paranormal' occurance. This is the video in question...

Again, as is becoming the standard, the clip first shows the video in its original, unedited form and then shows a replay with pauses and annotated thoughts and comments from me.
It's my opinion that this anomaly was called by a small IR light, possibly from a laser thermometer. The beam is too compact to be from a torch and yet as it moves down the stairs and hits objects that're closer to the cameraperson it gets larger, brighter and fuzzier. Also, the light never travels *behind* anything during its journey. This strongly suggests that it was caused by a lightsource of some kind - it's appearence as it moves over the bottom bannister and cloth further suggests this. The way the light reacts as the camcorder shot suddenly moves down at the end of the clip suggests that it was something in the videoers other hand that moved up when they went to adjust something / replay the clip on the camcorder. Try it yourself. Hold a camcorder in your right hand by the base and a trigger-thermometer in your left. Now go and press a button on the back of the camcorder with your left hand. Don't these actions match the behaviour of the light and camcorder in this clip?
I don't think this video has malicious intent, more perhaps an honest mistake on the videoers part.

A video from 11 years ago showing Richard Wiseman conducting a 'staring' experiment on a student. The student is a very young looking Dr. Matthew smith! Uploaded for the website badpsychics.co.uk
The main flaw in the experiment that Dr. Wiseman conducts here is that people feel that they are being stared at if the staring is done directly. However, this experiment keeps the subject in a completely seperate room with only his video image being looked at.
The experiment should have been carried out with the student blindfolded and with headphones on playing whitenoise, and Dr. Wiseman in the same room as him staring at him directly. That would produce more conclusive evidence either for or against the 'staring' theory.

All is explained in the video. This is superimposed and 100% fake. If you know about the 'Ghost Girl' phenomena then you'll catch it straight away, but for those who haven't then there's a comparison in the video, or simply go to this link to see for yourselves...

NOTE - Because of compression, for some reason the title stills only show briefly before disappearing. Just pause on these to read them - the only one of importance is the final one at the end of the video. Everything else is playing fine.
A little off from a ghost video I know, but this has been banded around for so long now as a video that is said to show the US Government 'Star Wars' protection being implemented and firing a 'missile' at a UFO seen flying just above the Earths atmosphere.
As I'm getting to grips with Adobe Premiere I can now add all my comments into the video itself rather than write them all down here. This hopefully will make showing the identifying areas easier to find, and make sure the video keeps within its context (i.e. debunking).
So, Government 'Star Wars' military action, or debris being affected by the shuttle booster blast? What do you think?

Recently, this video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evNHMcrW7R0 - was brought to my attention. It allegedly captures a shadow of a man flittering across the wall and then a door seemingly opening and closing by itself. There are also meant to be sounds of a pig and a woman crying, but they are not on the cut-down copy I have here - try the link above for the original presentation.
Unfortunately, the first and biggest thing that raised alarm bells with me was the name Lorraine Warren. In the past I wrote a detailed article regarding this footage - http://youtube.com/watch?v=o5-7jdPD2l8 (which can still be read on the BadGhosts website at http://badpsychics.com/badghosts/modules/news/article.php?st oryid=30 ) which explained how at least some of the phenomena was clearly fake, and the rest was questionable at best. Interestingly, although this other clip stays proud on YouTube, my copy was taken down despite another clip from the same TV show being allowed to stay. What's the point in producing 'The most compelling evidence ever recorded' if you cannot handle simple criticism?
But back to the video. Let's try and detail what is being reported as "very scary and 100% real". The back-story tells of a mothers child who would suddenly wake up screaming in the middle of the night. Since this is so obviously un-natural behaviour for a baby she deduced that her child was suffering from nightmares and so set up a camera to record what happened. How is that going to help though, if your child is having nightmares? Also, why would you point the camera at the door when it's the child you're supposed to be videoing? If you're trying to record sleep patterns, as the video claims is what's happening, then surely you'd need a detailed shot looking directly at the baby, not have it as a side-focal point so that it could be 'easily edited out' just in case something paranormal happened.
Then we see the clip. If you watch the original clip you can hear that just before, between when the text disappears and the video starts the thunder sounds behind it go silent. Obviously these have been dubbed on for dramatic effect (because doing that just adds to the serious credibility of the video you're presenting) but it does present the question that if this was overdubbed onto the video with apparent ease, then what is there to say that the other sounds heard, such as the pig and the woman crying, haven't been overdubbed too?
Then the video starts and instantly the shadow comes into view. Initially I thought it was pretty impressive, but then I watched the clip over and over again and I saw it for what it was. This is an overlay where two videos have been melded into one and you can see this clearly in the video. You'll have to watch this on full screen or else download this video and play it through Media Player because it's hard to spot, but once you see it it's obvious. Initially I was a little confused as to why the shot suddenly appears a little lighter when the shadow vanishes and thought that maybe a light was used to drown out the shadow to give that effect. Then, as I kept replaying the footage of the shadow disappearing I saw that the picture jumped upwards slightly as he disappeared - impossible if this was a live, uniterrupted lock-off feed. It's easiest and at its most visual if you focus on the doorhandle. As soon as the shadow comes into view and starts to fade out you can see the doorhandle fade out where it originally is and fade in slightly above it. This proves that this is two seperate video clips that have been melded together with a fade effect to give the appearence of the shadow disappearing like that.
Then we have the door itself. We see the handle move down and the door open, then close again with the handle being manually operated to silently close it fully. Sounds impressive, but you never see what's behind the door. The possibility that it could just be someone behind pulling down the handle, opening it slightly and then closing it again is very high, and since the shadow looks to have been faked then it just throws all credibility for this right out of the window.
So... "Very scary and 100% real" or computer effects and overdubbed sounds? Personally, I believe the latter.

This video was recorded whilst the group TAPS were investigating the Crescent Hotel. As they were doing a walk-around with the thermal imaging camera Jason asks for the tape to be rewound because he spots something odd. Upon a replay of the tape what appears to be a clear figure of a man wearing a hat and holding a pole is seen eyeing down Grant.
TAPS, in case you were not aware, are an American paranormal group that conduct wholly scientific investigative methods when researching a haunting. No mediums are used but rather cameras, recorders, dataloggers etc are all used in order to try and capture paranormal activity that can be studied and verified at a later date. The group, led by Jason and Grant, conduct numerous investigations which are broadcast on the TV program 'Ghost Hunters'. THeir methods are well thought out and, although the possibility is always there, I do not believe that any of the phenomena captured by the group is faked. They are also very analytical in their findings, spending time to thoroughly go over any potential phenomena to see if it could have been caused by anything rational.
It has been argued that the figure is a thermal reflection of Grant. It's argued that the hat that the figure is wearing is merely Grant's fringe. To me, the flat-topped shape of the head and the solidness of the brow make this theory improbable, but is typical of the type of hat that the Confederate Soldiers wore during the American Civil War (reference picture - http://www.fun-shop.com/images/08hats/21391c.jpg ).
These are my reasons as to why I believe that this video is something pretty special...
Because the apparition was spotted pretty much instantly Jason and Grant could instantly investigate the scene and check to see if anything rational could have created the figure to appear. In fact, Grant's reflection was the first possible explanation that came to them both at the same time, so they must have purposely tried to rationalise it as that. The first thing that the guys did was to stand in their original positions and re-create the exact scene and when they started filming not even the slightly hint of a thermal reflection could be seen in the shot. Even when the arm was being waved around in front of the camera near to the locker there was no hint of a thermal reflection appearing behind it.
If you watch closely during the split-screen between the night-vision and the thermal-vision camera you can see that at the exact same time that the figure appears in front of the locker Grant is not only swaying as he walks but also his head is continually looking downwards as he holds the thermal camera. Yet if you look at the figure it is standing very still and looking directly into the camera lens. Not only that, but the figure then stares down Grant, his head bowing down as it does so. The figure is also standing side on to Grant, its arms held out in front like it's holding onto a pole or staff. However, Grant is shown in the video to be standing face-on to the locker, and both of his arms are being used to hold the thermal camera. The movement and position of Grant in front of the locker bears absolutely no resemblance to the movement and position of the figure standing in front of him.
The other possibility that was considered was that the heat was being caused by someone hiding inside the locker as a joke, but upon checking it they discovered that it would have been impossible for someone to get in there due to the presence of shelves.
So what exactly could have caused the figure, and also the glowing 2? Personally I do not believe that the figure was a reflection of Grant, but there's definitely something there. But what? The only rational explanation that I can think of is that maybe a crewmember inadvertantly leant against the locker door for a period of time whilst waiting for the others to come - accidentally leaving a bodyheat imprint on the door. The only problems with this are that there is too much detail on the figure for this to be possible - that, and the hat would not be so clearly visible, if at all. The other problem is that the head of the figure is seen to eye down Grant, moving downwards like a bow in the process. Imprints cannot move.
So what're your opinions? Do you have any suggestions as to what could have caused the apparition?

This video featured on the TV program 'Paranormal Borderline' hosted by Johnathan Frakes and appears to show what some people are claiming to be "proof of alien abduction".
It is a security video from what appears to be a store. The time is 11.16pm and a worker is seemingly closing up the place for the night. However, when he opens the back gate and walks outside there is an instant, blinding flash right where he is standing and then all of the security cameras are temporarily knocked out, soon resuming their function. They then run for another 1 hour 50 minutes until 1.06am when there is another blinding white flash and all the cameras again get knocked out. When they resume function the aforementioned worker can be seen lying in a foetal position nearby to where he disappeared. He then leans up, vomits, then staggers off disorientated.
There is no way of knowing for sure what is happening in this video, however, the possibility that it could be an abduction cannot be ruled out. There is a possibility that the man may have accidentally wandered into a downed powerline and knocked himself unconscious. Maybe it could be an elaborate hoax?
What is your opinion?

The 'Barton Demon' video is personally one of my favourite paranormal videos currently out
The 'Barton Demon' video is personally one of my favourite paranormal videos currently out there. I'm not saying that it is 100% genuine or 100% fake (it would be impossible for me to since I was not there at the time) but there are aspects about it which make it an excellent video.
The video is from the website http://www.bartonmansion.com and is a 22 second clip taken from a DVD made of their whole experience. The clip shows two people walking into an empty room and then spotting something on the floor that I presume wasn't there before. Then they hear a noise and point the camcorder up to show this huge figure coming out to get them.
The first thought many people probably come up with when they see this video is either "Wow, that's genuine" or "Wow, that's fake". It's one of those videos that can't be debated in regards to possible rational, atmospheric conditions. There's a figure there, there's no doubt about that, but was it staged or was there really someone in the building the two guys didn't know about?
The clip is your pretty average investigator clip to begin with. I'm not sure why the guys are whispering to each other if they're in an empty, abandoned building although it's understandable if they're listening out for any unusual sounds. The best thing about this video is that when the two guys spot the figure coming out of the side door they run in a very genuine looking panic. This is what blind fear is, not the namby 'What's that?' sauntering that can be seen on some of the other videos in this channel. The guys hurl themselves down the stairs with no regard to safety (it's an old, abandoned building. The stairs could be very unsafe and dangerous) and give this gutteral male yelling that I reckon a good actor would struggle to recreate.
In my opinion, their fear is real. You cannot fake real fear like that. However, that still leaves the debate open as to what the figure could have been. Could it have been a prank played on the two guys? Could it have been an elaborate set-up and the two guys were just really good actors? Could the figure have been a tramp who had settled down for the night, not liking the guys disturbing him? Or could it really be a paranormal entity coming to get them? Personally I couldn't say for sure. The rationale in me wants to say staged, but it's their reaction that makes me think that there's more to it than just that.
The sad thing however is that on the Barton Mansion website they have two photos ( http://www.bartonmansion.com/barton_1977.html at the bottom), the right side one looking blatantly photoshopped. It's unfortunate because this could easily bring the whole clip into doubt.
What're your opinions on this video?

This clip has been around for years and reportedly shows a ghostly figure walking in front of the car. The effect is very good and the slight blur of the camera helps to keep everything looking consistant, but this video is very easy and simple to explain away.
As you look at the video don't initially keep focused on the figure, but rather look at the rest of the windscreen of the car, particularly the top left area. You'll see that it's quite dirty has has a number of small stains on it. If you watch you can see that the 'figure' moves in the exact same way as these other windscreen stains do (right down to the shaking of the camera), concluding that this figure is nothing more than a smear on the window. It's a very good effect.
Debunked.
